Norwich, VT - Christine McDonough, 61, died December 18, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, NH following a yearlong battle with cancer.
Christine was born September 18, 1963, in Boston, MA, the daughter of Edward and Kathleen (Reen) McDonough. Christine grew up in Dedham, MA and received her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Vermont. She operated her own physical therapy practice in Needham MA for several years before moving to Norwich, Vermont with her husband Leonard, where they raised their two daughters. Christine earned her Doctorate from Dartmouth College and worked as an assistant professor and medical researcher for Boston University and more recently at the University of Pittsburgh.
A soccer player and fan since she was a child, Christine was also an avid sailor and spent many enjoyable days on the waters of Buzzards Bay and off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. She was an enthusiastic traveler and made many trips to Europe for both business and pleasure. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard Calandrella of Norwich; daughters Julie Calandrella of Norwich and Emily Calandrella of Big Sky, MT; her four brothers, Edward, Nyal, Thomas and Timothy McDonough, sisters Kathleen Trabucco and Eileen Kiley, as well as their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at noon on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of the Upper Valley, 320 Route 5S, Norwich, VT, with a reception to follow.
