WINDSOR, VT
Charlotte Perkins Charbeneau, 98, died Monday morning, October 27 2014 at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, VT. A former long time resident of Bridgewater, VT, she had resided at Cedar Hill for the last three years, and prior to that at The Homestead in Woodstock, VT.

She was born in West Woodstock, VT on May 3rd, 1916, her mother's 34th birthday, to Harold E. Perkins, Sr. and Alice Lovina Hamilton Perkins.

She attended schools in Bridgewater and Woodstock, VT, graduating from Woodstock High School in 1933. She received her Ph.B. degree from the University of Vermont in 1938. She worked for the Vermont Congregational Conference and the Vermont YWCA. She was a counselor at Camp Hochelaga on South Hero Island in Lake Champlain. She graduated from the Yale School of Nursing with an MSN degree in July, 1947 and continued as a Nursing Instructor and staff nurse at New Haven (CT) Hospital through 1952.

She married Robert C. Charbeneau in December, 1948. They were later divorced.

In 1952 and 1953 she was a staff nurse at Waterbury (CT) Hospital. In September of 1953 she and her son John moved to Lake Mohonk, NY where she was the school nurse and housemother for the Mohonk School for Boys. In 1959 she moved to her parents' home in Bridgewater Corners, VT and worked as a nursing supervisor at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1981.

In 1972 she built her home, "Grander View" on the Perkins family property. She was an active member of the Bridgewater Congregational Church, singing alto in the choir and serving in many of the church offices.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Perkins Lockwood and Lillian Perkins, and four brothers, H. Edward Perkins, Jr., Hamilton Perkins, Ralph Perkins and Stanley Perkins.

She is survived by her son John Charbeneau and his wife Shirlene of Stuarts Draft, VA, three granddaughters, Abigail C. Charbeneau and her partner Sarah Dan Jones of Penacook, NH, Anne C. Zapanta and her husband Philip of Lorton, VA and Alison C. Bryant and her husband Richy of Belmont, NH, and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Rebekah Zapanta and Joseph Bryant.

Special thanks and appreciation is given to the caregivers at Cedar Hill Health Care Center, and also to The Homestead and to Rev. Beverly Anderson of the Bridgewater Congregational Church.
