Norwich, Vermont – Charles Newton Stickney, Jr. – 81, died Thursday evening, March 13, 2014 at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., Vermont. He was born March 4, 1933 in Norwich, VT the son of Charles N. and Lillian Mae (Church) Stickney. Charlie grew up and attended school in Norwich, VT. After graduating from HanoverHigh School in Hanover, NH, the class of 1952, he enlisted and served with the US Army. He was stationed in Germany as a Military Police Officer during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to the states he married Ann Thibodeau of White River Jct., VT on February 2, 1957. They lived in the home in Norwich where he was raised. Charlie worked for several years as a land surveyor first for a firm in Hanover, NH then later in Springfield, VT, and finally in Randolph, VT.   He then took employment at Dartmouth College as a Security Officer and worked there for the next twenty three years retiring in 1999.

Charlie enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting and fishing. He loved to tell stories about his days in the woods surveying and the time he spent oversea during his service. His family and friends will remember his incredible clam chowder and his homemade carrot cake. Charlie loved to spend time puttering around the house. He was in deed "the most aggravating man you liked to love".  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2571 in White River Jct., VT.

He is survived by his wife of Norwich, VT, three sons, Charles Stickney of Norwich, VT, Thomas Stickney of Thetford Center, VT, Greg Stickney of Bethel, VT., a daughter, Ellen LaRoche of Newport, VT, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Gerald Stickney of Warner, NH, Morris Stickney of Woodstock, VT, also several nieces and nephews.

Visting hours will be held Tuesday, March 18, from 6 to 8PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. A prayer service will follow visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 663, White River Jct., VT 05001.
