Ascutney, VT – Charles "Charlie" G. Reed, 62, died following a motorcycle accident with him and his wife on Saturday September 8, 2018 in Chester, VT.
Charlie was born June 18, 1956 in Lebanon, NH a son of Gerald and Gloria (Syriac) Reed. He graduated from Hartford High School Class of 1974 where he played baseball and basketball. He began working at the P&C Warehouse in Hartford as warehouse supervisor. After the warehouse closed, Charlie owned Downtown Grocery in White River Jct. for several years and later worked at Hypertherm in Lebanon before beginning work as a driver at Fed Ex.
He was married to Jennifer Smith August 9, 2014 and they made their home in Ascutney.
Charlie went out of his way to help others including coaching youth sports, volunteering for Lincoln Street and Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society as well as welcoming disabled persons to live with his wife and him. Many of his son's friends considered Charlie to be a second father.
He loved his dogs, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was an avid sports fan including the Red Sox, Patriots and Hartford High School teams. He also enjoyed the outdoors including time at the ocean, hunting and fishing. He and his family spent many years hunting together at Fulton Valley in South Strafford. Most of all Charlie loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Rick Reed
He is survived by his sons Ben (Katie) of Essex Jct., VT and Jacob (Danielle) of Candia, NH; step son Daniel Giguere of Ascutney and step daughter Morgan Towne of Grafton, NH; sisters Nancy (Tom) Camber of Enfield, NH and Joan (Tim) Gates of White River Jct.; brother Bob Reed of White River Jct.; six grandchildren Maddie, Ellie, Joseph, Lyla, Hunter and Mason; his ex-wives, Jane Rossi of Post Mills and Candy Winot Reed of Claremont, NH as well as an aunt and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Knight Funeral Home Sunday September 16 th at 1PM with a celebration following at the Veteran's of Foreign Wars in White River Jct., VT.
