Merrimack, NH – Charles Paul Hebert, 71, formerly of Windsor, VT died peacefully Saturday December 26th at home in Merrimack, NH surrounded by family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born February 12, 1938 in Burlington, VT a son of Albert and Marie (Parent) Hebert. He graduated from Windsor High School Class of 1957. He was married to Shirley Elliott in 1957 and later was stationed in France while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1960. After returning from the military he worked for a time at St. Johnsbury Trucking in Bellows Falls, VT and then as a machinist for Cone Blanchard in Windsor for many years. He was divorced from his wife in 1979 and later moved to Merrimack, NH where he worked as a machinist for Hitchiner Manufacturing for over twenty years before retiring.
Charlie enjoyed visits from family, both his and extended. He loved animals especially his German Shepherds and exotic birds. He especially enjoyed fishing, photography, the Boston Red Sox, and traveling to Florida with his soul mate and partner of over twenty years, Jean. Charlie was never a "Charles", to be a Charlie implies wit, even a little sarcasm. One of his final words of wisdom was "There is no tomorrow, only today".
He is survived by four daughters Charlene LaPlante of White River Jct., Catherine Richardson of Windsor, Christine Gamble of Lebanon, and Janetta Denk of White River Jct., two sons Lawrence Hebert of Hollywood, FL and Stephen Hebert of White River Jct., fifteen grandchildren, his partner Jean Chase of Merrimack and her six daughters Deborah Brooks, Denise Fontaine, Diane Finkle, Donna Cobb, Lauren Meterkowski, Cindy Veisinkops, a sister Ann Gibson of Reading and a brother Robert Hebert of Claremont as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Richard Hebert.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT Monday from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 29th at 11AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. Burial will be in the Spring in the St. Francis Cemetery, also in Windsor.
