Charles P. Day

Hartland, VT – Charles P. Day, 82, died Saturday morning November 10th at Mt. Ascutney Hospital & Health Center after a short battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma.

He was born August 26, 1930 in Worcester, MA a son of Floyd MacLean Day and Marjorie (Packard) Day. Charles grew up and attended school in Brimfield, MA before graduating from Wilbraham Academy. He then attended the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture where he earned his associates degree. Charles entered the US Army in 1951, serving until being honorably discharged, after his service in Korea, in 1954. He began working at New England Metal Culvert in Palmer, MA and was later transferred to Wilder, VT. He was married to Jean Baker in Chester, VT on June 21, 1958 and they made their home in Hartland where they have lived since. Charles later drove for various companies in the Upper Valley including RSD Transportation where he worked until his retirement.

Mr. Day was an avid marksman who enjoyed target shooting. He was a member of the Woodstock Gun & Pistol Club, with whom he competed in the national championships. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion in Hartland, VT. Charles also enjoyed antique tractors but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family.

Charles leaves his wife, Jean, of Hartland, a son Michael H. Day; his daughter Sarah Brimlow and her husband David and sons Cameron and Kyle all of Lake Wales, FL; a sister Charlotte Day Hudson of Brimfield, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT Monday November 12th from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the Hartland Congregational Church on Tuesday at 11AM with burial following in the Hartland Village Cemetery.
