Charlie grew up in Quechee. He enlisted in the Army in October of 1942 and served in 9th Air Force, 410th Bomb Group, 645th Squadron. He was an airplane mechanic and served in several locations in the European theatre including Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. Charlie was a man of few words. He loved planes and even after his service he flew his own plane for pleasure for many years. In 1950, Charlie married Stella May Luce of Quechee, VT. Charlie and Stella had three boys: David Lee, Donald Lynn and Dennis Lew, affectionately known as DLB #1, #2 and #3. Though employed by other local businesses after the war, Charlie had the bug to have his own store. In 1958, Charlie and Stella started Charlie Brown's Inc., an outdoor power equipment business that many consider to be an Upper Valley landmark. He built the shop with much help from his neighbor, brother-in-law and best friend Fred Luce; it is still in business on Rt. 4. He was predeceased by Stella in 1972 and later married Marion French. Charlie sold the business in 2004 and relocated to Hudson, FL. He is survived by his wife Marion of Hudson; sisters Esther Beckett of White River Junction, VT and Ann Collins of Quechee, VT; son David and his wife Marjorie of Columbia, MD; son Donald and his wife Anita of Plainfield, NH; son Dennis and his wife Mary Kay of White River Junction, VT; grandchildren James, Crystal and Brian Wise, Charlotte, Aaron and Evan; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Wise.
