Obituary

Reading, VT - Charles "Charlie" D. Allen, 70, died peacefully at home in Reading on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.  He was born on April 2, 1952, in Flint, MI to Shirley May (Wonnacott) Allen. Shirley's brother, Alan Wonnacott, was instrumental in Charlie's childhood and stoked his interest in machining from an early age. As a young man, Charlie moved to Long Beach, CA and became a police officer; his career in policing and life in general eventually brought him to the other coast where he lived in Providence, RI. He transitioned back to the machining trade and moved to Claremont, NH and while there, met Dottie Allen. It was love at first sight for both of them and within a few months, they married at Old Orchard Beach, ME on July 3, 1981. They loved spending summers between Old Orchard Beach, often enjoying the 4 th of July fireworks there, and Lake George, NY. Together they rode the scenic backroads of Vermont and New Hampshire on a motorcycle and enjoyed listening to music and watching movies. He retired in 2020 from Chamberlain Machine in Walpole after 35 years as a machinist and programmer. Throughout his time there, as the family-owned company grew and changed, he loved problem solving alongside wonderful coworkers who were also like a close-knit family.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Allen of Reading; two siblings-in-law, Janet Allen and Floyd Allen and wife Cindy, all of Reading; three nephews, Christopher Voisine and wife Amy of Burlington, Shane Voisine of Reading, and Palmer Allen of Reading; one great nephew, Theodore; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Mae Crossland; his uncle, Alan Wonnacott; and one brother-in-law, Dennis Allen.

Per his request, no public services will be held.
