East Thetford, VT – Charlene Kay Stebbins, 83 passed away peacefully Sunday night, March 31st, 2024, at Hanover Terrace surrounded by her family. She was born October 5, 1940, in Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Porter and Treve Irene Porter. Charlene grew up in David City, Nebraska and graduated from David City High School. As an Air Force wife, Charlene travelled the world from Japan to Azores, Portugal and many US states in between ending in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She worked at the First National Bank in Grand Forks, North Dakota and continued to grow in her banking knowledge and skills. Later in life, she took her banking experience and began teaching at East Grand Forks Area Vocational Technical Institute where she taught for over 10 years. She and her husband retired in Grand Forks and eventually moved to Bemidji, Minnesota. After several years alone, following the death of her husband, she moved to Vermont to live near her daughter & grandchildren. Though the time in New England was short, it gave her the opportunity to build strong relationships with three of her grandchildren and meet seven great grandchildren.
Charlene enjoyed bowling, square dancing and playing cards. She also loved to sing karaoke with her husband, "Ted". In her later years, she loved playing bingo and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore John Stebbins, who died June 28, 2007. She was also predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Ben and Robert Porter and her son-in-law, Norbert Whitman. Charlene is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Whitman of East Thetford, VT; son, James Beebe of Glen Rose, TX; her five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She will be laid to rest with her husband Friday morning, April 26 at 11AM in a private ceremony at the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT.
