Cecile Jeannette Corliss, 75, passed away Monday, October 13 at her home in Windsor.
She was born April 18, 1939 in Lebanon, NH a daughter of Emile Joseph and Simonne Evelina (Bathalon) Demers. Cecile grew up in towns around the Upper Valley. Her family spoke French at home and she learned English after starting school. As her brothers and sisters began attending school, Cecile helped them translate and learn English. She graduated from Windsor High School Class of 1957 and shortly after began working at Aubuchon Hardware, first in White River Jct. and later in Brandon before becoming manager of the Vergennes store. She returned to Lebanon and lived on Lake Mascoma where she began a career in medical records at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Several years ago she moved back to Windsor to live with her sister, Dianne. She greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Windsor Welcome Center the last few years.
Family was very important to Cecile. She cared for her mother who lived with her for several years. She loved her many nieces and nephews and was especially proud of her newest grand-nephew, Asher Surrell. Cooking for her family was a special treat for both Cecile and her family.
Cecile enjoyed tinkering on things and was regarded as quite a handy person. She also enjoyed books and learning new knowledge, reading four newspapers a day, and shared her knowledge with others.
She was married to Roger Corliss, who passed away many years ago.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Dianne S. Surrell and her brother Normand Demers.
She leaves two brothers, George E. Demers and his wife, Anne of East Thetford, VT and Charles H. Demers and his wife, Gail of Harvest, AL and daughter-in-law, Inge Demers of Jensen Beach, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 1 at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The memorial service will begin at 12:00, with the Rev. Raphael Nyabenda, Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Windsor Welcome Center at 3 Railroad Avenue in Windsor.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the organization of one's choice
