Catherine M. Sterling of Wilder, VT passed away October 25, 2021 in Lebanon, NH.  Born March 4, 1929, she was the first child of Rev. Melville Clark and Olive Snow Mays.  Educated at New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and Boston University, Catherine was a Registered Nurse who worked in a variety of settings including the Unirondack Camp in Lowville, NY, Plummer Memorial Hospital in Dexter, ME and the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home in Hanover, NH.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Rev. Robert W. Sterling, a brother Frederick Mays, sisters Nancy LeShane Weisbaum and Priscilla Mays, and nephews Philip Le Shane and Peter Le Shane.  Catherine is survived by her sister Margaret Mays of Chapel Hill, NC, son David Sterling and his wife Karen of Agawam, MA, son Craig Sterling of Wilder, VT, daughter Barbara Sterling of Wilder, VT, grandson Alexander Sterling of Leominster, MA and nephew David Le Shane of Colorado Springs, CO.  As the daughter of a Congregational minister, she grew up in several towns in Vermont before graduating from the Wells River, VT High School.  As the wife of an Unitarian Universalist minister, she lived in Hornell, Central Square, Little Falls, and Southold in New York State, West Upton, MA and Dexter, ME.  Catherine spent many summers and other good times in Bridgewater, VT at the homes of her Snow family grandparents and then her mother.  For the last 31 years, she lived in Wilder, VT.  She avidly followed the ups and downs of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots.  A skilled knitter, she loved to make caps for newborns.  Catherine's family thanks the caregivers and staff of Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for making her last days peaceful.  No services are planned.  Her family will hold a private ceremony in Danville, VT.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Catherine's name to the charity of your choice.  Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements.
