Catherine P. McKenney, a resident of White River Jct., entered into her eternal life on Tuesday, December 8 th with her family at her home and bedside. She passed peacefully on one of her favorite Holy days, The Immaculate Conception.

She was born in Newport, Vermont on March 12, 1930, the daughter of Lloyd and Addie (Meigs) Whittier. She grew up in Newport, Poultney, Castleton and West Bridgewater, Vermont. Cathy worked at Kreske's Department Store in Rutland for a few years before her marriage to Edwin McKenney. They professed their vows of marriage at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rutland on November 19, 1949, and lived most of their years in White River Jct. Since then, Cathy did office work from her home for her husband's building contractor business. After nearly sixty years of married life together, Ed predeceased her on July 26, 2009.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, belonged to the Living Spirit Prayer Group and sang in the choir for several years.

Cathy enjoyed reading, dancing and going on camping trips with her family as well as traveling to Europe on different occasions with her husband. Her most precious moments were spending time with her family and was so very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Cathy was predeceased by an infant son, Edwin J. McKenney, Jr., her parents, and two brothers: Norman Whittier and his wife, Lucinda, Garth Whittier who passed away in 1945 while serving his country in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge, and son-in-law Jerry Bachelder.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Bachelder, Gary McKenney (Karleen) of White River Jct., Ann Vella (Peter) of Ascutney, Douglas McKenney (Kerry) of Hartford, grandchildren Jeremy Bachelder (Sheila), Jennifer Driscoll (Peter), Gregory McKenney (Alison), Jill McKenney, Peter Vella, Brandon Vella, Melissa Vella, Great Grandchildren: Cathryn Bachelder, Daniel Bachelder, Lauren Driscol, and Lillian McKenney. A sister, Shirley Holt; brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Cathy's family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the care provided by the VNH Doctors, nurses, and aids, the Caring Hands Agency, all family members and friends, a special thanks to clergy members and all the kindness and multitude of prayers and well wishes for Cathy as she has journeyed many months racing to the finish line to Eternal Life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 12 th at 11AM at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. All are welcome to attend, however capacity is limited and all other COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. A link to view the Mass online will become available at knightfuneralhomes.com
