Obituary

Carolyn T. Cheney, 84, of White River Junction died on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She was born on January 12, 1937, in Highgate, Vermont to Oliver and Adelaide (Bushey) Tatro in Highgate Center, Vermont and was united in marriage to Donald R. Cheney on August 27, 1960. Over the years of her career in telecommunications, she experienced huge changes in technology, starting as a cord board operator and retired from Verizon in the late 1990s. After retirement, she found a wonderful community at the Bugbee Senior Center where she answered the phone, cheerfully greeted people at the door, and had her own unofficial lunch table where all were welcome. She was a dedicated member of St. Anthony Parish and served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. Carolyn was a talented and accomplished quilter, embroiderer and seamstress who was active in many local guilds, a Vermont state guild, and an embroidery group in Portland on her annual winter visits to Jeannine.

The family would like to express gratitude to the Bugbee Senior Center family for the love and support they provided to her. Especially the staff and volunteers involved with the Meals on Wheels program, who provided essential support in recent years.

Special gratitude goes to VNH, who's caring staff supported her through some difficult times in her later years.

She is survived by four children, Jeannine Cheney of Portland, Oregon, Michael J. Cheney, Sr. and wife Kathleen of Woodstock, Connecticut, David R. Cheney and wife Rosa of Arlington, Virginia, and Steven K. Cheney, Sr. and wife Latrice of Oxford, Massachusetts; one brother, Kenneth Oliver Tatro and wife Merlene of Deering, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Michael J. Cheney, Jr., Christopher J. Cheney, Tristan A. Cheney, and Steven K. Cheney, Jr.; other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Anthony and James Tatro.

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the spring. Knight Funeral Home, White River Junction is entrusted with arrangements and online condolences are appreciated at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
