Caroline L. DePalo
Greensboro, VT – Caroline L. DePalo, 92, died Tuesday February 26th at the Greensboro Nursing Home in Greensboro, VT.
She was born a daughter of James B. and Lucienne (Dumont) Agassiz, on July 18, 1920 in Honolulu, HI where her father was a bridge builder. After her father's death when she was a young child, Caroline grew up and attended school in Island Pond, VT. After graduating from high school she moved to Waltham, MA where she worked at a defense plant during World War II.
She was later married to Thomas DePalo and they spent the early years of their marriage in New Rochelle, NY while he completed his medical residency. Dr. DePalo then began a practice in Milford, MA where they spent many years raising their family before moving to Mendon, MA. After retiring, the DePalo's moved to Barre, VT, where they lived for several years. Mrs. DePalo has been a resident at the Greensboro Nursing Home for the past ten years.
Mrs. DePalo was predeceased by her husband, Thomas in 1988 as well as a brother Louis Agassiz and two sisters Madeline Garrison and Constance Agassiz.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Hourihan and her husband Richard of Cabot, VT; a son James J. DePalo and his wife Kathy of Shrewsbury, MA; grandchildren Matthew, Jill and Daniel Hourihan and Marybeth and Raymond DePalo; a sister Marguerite Crocker of Meredith, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Saturday March 9th from 9 – 10:30 AM followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. at 11 AM. Committal Services will be held in the Spring in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, also in White River Jct.
