Carol Ann Barth's Obituary

Hartland, VT – Carol Ann Barth, 66, died Saturday, July 28, 2018, surrounded by family and friends at the Jack Byrne Palliative and Hospice Center in Lebanon, NH after a short battle with cancer.

Carol was born December 3, 1951 in Windsor, VT the only child of Edmund and Joyce M. (Courtney) Mandigo. She graduated from Windsor High School class of 1969 and went on to further her education at Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg, MA receiving her degree in 1972.

She married Thomas E. Barth on September 4, 1971, in Windsor, VT. They made their home first in Windsor and then in Hartland for the past 31 years. As soon as Carol finished her nursing training she took work at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor and Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH. A few months later she began her long and successful career at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct., VT where she has worked for the past forty two years. During her time there, Carol received nearly every award and commendation from the hospital for her outstanding skill, service and dedication to the VA and its patients. Included in those awards was the "Helping Hands Award" a national award given out by the Veterans Administration and housed in Washington, DC for unequaled service. Her most recent accolade was the presentation of the Daisy Award she received in 2014. As many of her friends and former coworkers have said, "Carol Barth ran the V.A. and everyone knew it." She was a mentor and gift to the nursing world.

Along with her love of her work and unparalleled dedication to her job Carol also was equally dedicated to her family and her home. She loved to garden and doted on her children, especially her two granddaughters. Carol enjoyed many vacations to Aruba and Marco Island, FL, with her husband and friends. She was predeceased by many of her dogs, most recently by her two Bernese Mountain Dogs Rudy and Jasper.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Thomas Barth, her Bernese Mountain dog, Gracie Lou, her daughter Kristen Barth and her partner, Erin Donahue of Windsor, VT, her son, Thomas Edmund Barth and his wife, Mindy of Concord, VT and their two children, Lily, and Leia.
