Carl Silver, M.D., 79, a resident of Eastman and formerly a long time resident Woodmere, Long Island, NY, passed away Monday evening, September 24 at Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, NH
He was born December 25, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Dr. Abraham G. and Kate (Goldstein) Silver.
He received his primary education in Long Island where he graduated from Woodmere Academy in 1950. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Swarthmore College in 1954 and his Medical Degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn in 1958. He served his medical internship at Beth Israel Hospital from 1958 to 1959. In 1960 he attended the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania specializing in Otolaryngology and in 1961 did his Post Graduate study at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Silver was a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and served as Director of Otolaryngology at Peninsula General Hospital, Brookdale Hospital, St. Catherine-Siena Medical Center, Long Beach Medical Center, and had done private practice with his father on Long Island.
Dr. and Mrs. Silver resided in Woodmere, Long Island from 1946 until 2003, when they retired to New Hampshire.
He greatly enjoyed boxing, tennis, motorcycles and gardening, more specifically weeding. He also enjoyed drinking gin and tonic served in a tennis ball can.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Annette (Kieffer) Silver of Eastman, one son, Scott L. Silver and his wife, Julie of Windsor, VT and one daughter, Karen L. Silver of Brooklyn, NY, two granddaughters, Elise and Elona Silver of Windsor, one brother, William Silver of Manhattan, NY, several nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28 at 12:00 Noon, at the King Solomon Cemetery Chapel in Clifton, New Jersey. Rabbi Charles Kroloff, a cousin to Dr. Silver, will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot at the cemetery. Shiva will follow on Saturday at the home of his brother, William Silver in Manhattan from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
