Obituary

Bryan J. Davern, 96, of Windsor, VT, passed away on August 28, 2016. Bryan was born in Meadville, PA on November 15, 1919, the son of the late Francis Clare and Helen (Crowley) Davern. He was raised in Upper Darby, PA.

After graduating from high school, Bryan earned a degree in Business from New York University and took graduate courses at Columbia University. He spent a brief time assessing commercial real estate property values for Dunn & Bradstreet before becoming Manager of Commercial Real Estate for Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, where he worked for 30 years. He retired in 1980.

Bryan married Anne (West) Davern in September, 1955. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage, living in New York City and Cold Spring Harbor, NY, before settling in New Canaan, CT for 35 years.

Bryan was an adventurous traveler and an enthusiastic life-long learner. He enjoyed the bustling streets of New York City or diving into a rough surf, as much as he loved a classic jazz brunch or a class on Mayan culture. No matter where he was, Bryan made quick friends, leaving even strangers with a lasting memory of his warmth and wit.

In addition to his wife, Anne, Bryan is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, John P. Davern of New Haven, CT, and Robert F. and Sandra J. (Perron) Davern of North Springfield, VT. He is also survived by his sisters Martha (Davern) Sheehan of Chicago, IL and Helen (Davern) Wemyss of Village of Golf, FL, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Robert Davern.

A family celebration of Bryan's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Doctors without Borders or Save the Children.
