Bruce Read, 94, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder, Vermont.
Bruce was born June 26, 1917 in Lombard, IL the son of Elmer and Eva (Haviland) Read. He graduated from Glenbard High School and received a Bachelors degree from Ohio State University. He participated in post graduate work at both Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University specializing in RADAR, Bruce served in the Navy during WWII as Lieutenant Commander. Bruce was married to Charlotte Borek in the 1940's. Upon his return from service he went to work for Raytheon in Bedford, MA for a time before going to work for Saunders Associates in Nashua, NH as an Electronic Engineer in the early. In the 1950's he and his wife founded the Round Robin Farm where they specialized in Connemara Ponies. In the 1970's he retired and they moved to South Royalton where Bruce was able to enjoy his retirement.
Bruce enjoyed sailing, travel, collecting, photography, but he is best known for his passion of HAM Radio where his call was WIPOB for the last 75 years.
Bruce is predeceased by his wife Charlotte Read.
He is survived by his son Stephen Read of South Royalton, two daughters Nancy Grasso of St. Augustine, FL and Debbie Robin Read of Oxnard, CA, and one granddaughter, Rebeka.
