Obituary

Brian James Hanson was born February 17th, 1985 in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Hanson family moved to White River Junction, VT in 1995, where his parents have lived ever since. Consistently appearing on the Honor Roll and excelling in tennis and soccer, he was a highly active student at Hartford High, where he graduated with Honors in 2003.
Upon graduating, Brian took his energy and positivity to St. Lawrence University, where the rugby team benefitted from his athleticism and enthusiasm. He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology and Math in 2007.
Most recently, he lived in Essex Junction, VT, where he worked at the Sports and Fitness Edge in Williston as a sales representative. Brian was a huge fan of New England sports teams, and remained active in Men's Soccer teams in the Burlington area.
Brian's overriding sense of humor gave him a talent for bringing laughter out of a group. The generosity with which he gave of himself was unparalleled. Brian's love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for those he explored it with: countless family pictures capture the adventures of fishing, hiking, camping and the like with his Father, Uncle Eric, family and friends. Above all, this gentle soul had a special way of bringing comfort during challenging times to those he cared most about. At the very least, these include his grandparents, his parents, and the sister with whom he was so close.
Brian ended his life on February 9, 2012. He is survived by parents Keith and Mary Hanson, sister Anne Hanson Curtis and her husband Jason of Holyoke, MA; grandparents Wayne and Jane Hanson of Wilmington, NC; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends throughout the country. He is predeceased by his beloved grandparents Anne and Leon Robert, God-parents Robert and Sandy Hanson, great grandparents Arnold and Rose Hanson, and great grandparents Roxie and John Idom.
Services and a reception will be held at The Wilder Center, 11am Friday February 17th. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction will be supervising the arrangements.
In light of Brian's lifelong passion for sports, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Hartford, VT Parks and Recreation Department Youth Sports Scholarship Fund, 171 Bridge Street, White River Jct., VT 05001.
