IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brendan J.
O'Connor
November 21, 1955 – September 5, 2024
Hartland, VT – Brendan J. O'Connor, 68, departed this life Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, NH.
He was born a son of John and Elizabeth O'Connor on the Island of Bermuda November 21, 1955, while his father was serving there with the US Navy. As a young boy he moved with his father's career including stays in Virginia and Newport, RI before settling in Hanover, NH. Brendan graduated from Hanover High School Class of 1974 where he loved his time on the football and hockey teams. Following high school, he went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and earned a degree in civil engineering. His career as a construction engineer left its mark on the Dartmouth Campus including projects at the Hood Museum, Thayer School, Baker Library, and the conversion of Webster Hall.
Brendan rekindled an old relationship that led to spending twenty-three years with the love of his life, Heidi. They were married in 2012
An avid reader all his life, Brendan, had the uncanny ability to recall all he read and would often add unique and interesting facts to conversations to the delight of his family and friends. He was a lifelong learner, and his curiosity led him to explore historical sites wherever he traveled. He enjoyed his annual cruises with his family where they witnessed his transformation from flannels to Hawaiian and Cuban shirts. Brendan loved spending time with his wife, her children and grandchildren and his Black Lab, Foley.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi of Hartland; her children, Dan (Amy), Sam (Jessica), Tanner (Katie); his grandchildren, Quinn, Lennon, Hamilton, and Lawrence; siblings Anne Melko (Michael), Joan, Christopher (Kathy) and John.
He was predeceased by his parents and his youngest brother, Brian.
