White River Junction, VT- It is with profound sadness, but hearts grateful for a lifetime of love, we announce the passing of our Mother, MieMie, and Great MieMie, Beverly Porter on June 11, 2026. She left us to be at peace after a long, courageous battle with dementia.

Mom was born in Lebanon, NH on February 14, 1935, the “Valentine baby” of William and Leafie (Baker) Murphy. Raised in Lebanon, the youngest of five siblings, Mom would meet and marry Dad, Robert Porter. Together they would move and build their life, and family in Hartford, VT, until Dad’s early death in 1980. Mom worked at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Split Ballbearing and continued to work, until her retirement, for the United States Postal Service in White River Junction, VT.

Above all, Mom cherished her role as Mom, MieMie, and Great MieMie. She was a constant and loving presence to all of us in her family, especially her grandchildren Courtney and Bobby. Their lives were enriched with her presence at their school events, sporting games, graduations, weddings, and all major milestones. They held an exceptionally special place in her heart.

Mom has left behind her loving daughter and friend, Kathryn Porter Bishop, and Son-in-Law who was always more like a son, Jeffrey Bishop, Grandchildren Courtney(Jon) Ryder and Robert (Michelle) Bishop, and Great grandchildren Nora Bishop, Olivia Ryder and Liam Bishop. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Robert Porter and Great Granddaughter Valerie Bishop.

Though dementia tried to steal her away, it never took her soul or the way she loved all of us, her family. She was our example of independence, strength, and unconditional love. As her memory faded, her love stayed behind in every touch, laugh, and smile.

At Mom’s request, there will be a private family celebration of her time with us. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com

Dementia took Mom from us, but it could never take all the great days we had together. So never regret a day, good days give happiness, bad days give experience, worst days give lessons, and the best days give memories.

We have many “best” days and memories with our Mom, MieMie and Great MieMie.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to VINS Nature Center, PO Box 1281, Quechee, VT 05059 or https://vinsweb.org/donate/. In nature many good memories are made.
