White River Junction, Vt.—Beverly Rose Cole, 84, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016. She was born in Providence and spent most of her life in Rhode Island until moving to Valley Terrace in White River Junction. Beverly grew up in Edgewood and graduated from Cranston East High School, where she was an excellent student and Chief Majorette, and the Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston.
Beverly worked in the personnel office at Shephard's Department Store in Providence, where she met her husband, Bob. She later took Education courses at the University of Rhode Island and became a teacher at the Happy Hollow Nursery School located in her church, Trinity Episcopal Church in Pawtuxet. She loved working with children. Bev and Bob moved to Wickford, and she worked as a children's librarian at the North Kingstown Free Library until she retired. She attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wickford.
Beverly was a sociable, quick-witted person and leaves behind many good friends. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed arts and crafts. While dementia gradually took most of this away, she never complained, and even after she was unable to speak she was able to make her caregivers laugh.
Beverly is survived by a son, Stephen T. Cole, of White River Junction, and a daughter, Patricia Cole-Salisbury of Pelham, Alabama; three grandchildren, Christopher, Esme and Thea; and 14 nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Virginia; husband, Robert; sister, Audrey; and nephew, Mark.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday February 28, from 1-3 pm at the Knight Funeral Home in Wilder, Vt.
A memorial celebration will be announced for early June in Rhode Island.
