Obituary

Hartford, VT – Betty Ann McKenney, 83, died peacefully, Thursday afternoon, April 1, 2021 at her home in Hartford, VT. She was born February 12, 1938 in Hanover, NH the daughter of Roy and Odalite (Chesley) Blanchard.

She attended her first four years of school in Claremont, NH and then her next four in Windsor, VT. When she was a freshman, she moved to White River Jct., VT and attended Hartford high School graduating in 1956. Betty graduated with high honors and was extremely active during her high school years, she played both basketball and softball and participated in Drama Club, Square Dance Club, School newspaper, Library Club, the Prom committee, Vermont Music Festival, Saving Stamp Club and her yearbook Staff. She served as Class Secretary and Class Marshall.

Right after graduation Betty went to work as a clerk for the Wire Chief at the Phone Company in White River Jct., VT. On July 5, 1958, she married Nelson McKenney at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct., Vt. They rented an apartment in Lebanon, NH for three years before moving back to Hartford, VT. In 1961 they purchased their home on Ledge Side Terrace where they have lived for the past sixty years.

Betty left the phone company shortly after her first son, David, was born. He was followed by three girls, Sharon, Judeen and Karen. Along with raising their four children, Betty volunteered as a Sunday school, Catechism teacher and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Betty and Nelson have shared sixty-two wonderful years of marriage. Together they enjoyed making many wonderful memories at the family cottage on Lake Champlain. She also loved reading, cooking, the holidays, family gatherings and her beautiful flower gardens. Her favorite pastime was music.

Betty was predeceased by a son, David McKenney who died in a canoe accident in 1982, two sisters, Flora "Jane" Dickerson, Anna LaMott and a brother, Edward Blanchard.

She is survived by her husband, Nelson of Hartford, VT, daughters, Sharon Cordero and her husband, Miguel of Townsend, MA, Judeen "Judy" Dauphinais and her husband, Albert of Danbury, NH, and Karen Dodds of Hagerstown, MD, four grandchildren, Michael Cordero, Ryan Dauphinais, Valerie Dodds and Kristinna Dodds, a half-brother, Tom Chesley of Claremont, NH, a step brother, Dave Noyes and step sister, Connie Fish both of Massachusetts, a sister-in-law, Ingrid Merritt of Sandy Hook, CT as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be no public visiting hours.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11AM at St. Anthony Church in White River Jct., VT.   Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., VT.
