Windsor, VT - Mercier, Bettie Anne of Boston, MA went home to be with her parents, the late Ruth and Francis Mercier, her aunts, and a younger sister, on August 28, 2023, at the age of 80.

Profoundly affected by the death of her father as a teenager, Bettie strove to care for her younger three sisters, buying them clothes, making extraordinary birthday cakes, and sewing clothes for their dolls. After graduating from Braintree High School, she went on to Northeastern to earn her bachelor's degree meeting life-long friends there.  She then continued her education earning her Master's Degree Computer Science from Boston University. As a computer programmer she worked at Mass General Hospital and then at Meditech. As a pioneer in her field, MGH would continue to call on Bettie even years after she had left there. At her retirement from Meditech she was told she had helped make Meditech what it was with her computer analyst expertise.

Bettie lived near Fenway most of her life, rescuing stray cats, meeting people, and enjoying the Rose Garden. She spent many hours in the Museum of Fine Arts, encouraging her nieces in their love of art and history. She loved spending time at the cottage her grandfather helped build on Cape Cod, walking along the beach, crossing the creek, and instilling in her family their love of the ocean. She planted many a rose bush along her family's cottage. She also loved family reunions where she might be seen making pumpkin pie, lasagna, baklava, beach plum jelly.

She is survived by many cousins, nieces, great nieces and great nephews, and two sisters, one of whom was with Bettie in her last moments, reading her a story about cats. Burial will be at 10:00AM, Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Norton Center Cemetery.
