BROWNSVILLE, VT
Beryl Emmeline (Morgan) Hinton, 91, a longtime resident of Brownsville, died peacefully at her home in Brownsville on Sunday, May 8.
She was born January 26, 1920 in Hammersmith, London, England, the daughter of Edward and Muriel (Dicker) Morgan. Beryl received her education from Leavesden Green College in England, the University of Vermont and Keene State College. She served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (now the Women's Royal Army Corps of England) from 1939 to 1945 during World War II. After emigrating to the United States in 1957 she worked as an elementary school teacher at the Albert Bridge School in Brownsville for sixteen years. She married John E. Hinton in Windsor on June 23, 1973.
Beryl gave generously of her time to her Brownsville community and her church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Windsor. She coordinated volunteers for the Windsor Public Library, served as a volunteer for the West Windsor Historical Society, was an active member of the PM Club, and was known for her many birthday greetings to members of her community. She loved her birds, flowers and "her" mountain, (Mt. Ascutney). Mr. Hinton passed away December 7, 1983. She was also predeceased by her brother, William E. Morgan, her stepson, John W. Hinton and a step granddaughter, Caroline H. Hilton. Her family thanks her many friends for the love and support they gave Beryl over the years.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Jane Hinton-Smith and her husband of Georgetown, SC, five step grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be held Saturday, May 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the West Windsor Grange Hall at 1023 Route 44 in Brownsville, VT. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Sheddsville Cemetery in West Windsor.
At Mrs. Hinton's request her body was donated to the Dartmouth Medical School.
