Fairlee, Vermont - Bernhard Poschmann, 91, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home in Fairlee, Vermont with his son by his side. He was born May 21, 1927, in Gelesenkirchen-Schalke, Germany. He grew up and attended schools in Gelsenkirchen – Schalke. He moved to Toronto, Canada in 1954 and then to the United States in 1958. Six years later he married Maria Hermine Roeken in New York City on July 25, 1964.

While they lived in New York he worked as Manager at Kolping Haus NYC, plus Bartender, Waiter, Mgr at Peter Lugers Steak House Brooklyn. In  late 1978 they moved to White River Jct., VT and a week later purchased the Maple Leaf Motel and Campground on Route 5 Jan 4 1979. For the next twenty-three years he and his wife, and with help from their son, they operated the Motel and campground until it was sold in 2002. Mrs. Maria Poschmann died August 3, 1995

After he and his son sold the Motel they moved to Fairlee, VT and has lived there for the rest of his life. Since Maria 's passing, Mr. Poschmann's son, Bernhard, has been his full-time caregiver and enabled him to stay in his own home.

Mr. Poschmann enjoyed watching soccer matches with his son, making sausage and bratwurst, leberwurst and other old world favorites and traveling to Germany to visit old friends and family.  He was a proud member of the Kolping Society for almost his entire life. loved to play Guitar, loved getting together with friends and family plus obviously cooking and great food.

Bernhard Sr. was predeceased by his father, Bernhard August Poschmann, mother, Anna  Tuschinski, brother, Hubert Poschmann, sister,  Hildegard Reisenbeck and her husband, Carl, and by his wife, Maria.

He is survived by his beloved son, Bernhard "Bernie" E. Poschmann, III of Fairlee, VT, cousins in Germany, brothers and sisters in-law, also several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Thursday evening, July 19, from 5-7PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20, at 1PM  at the Knight Funeral Home with burial afterward in Fairlee Village Cemetery in Fairlee, Vermont
