Obituary

Thetford Center, VT.  -  Belford A. Belles, 87, died Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the White River Junction VAMC with his wife by his side.

Born in Pennsylvania on October 18, 1937, Belford graduated from Berwick High School, enlisted in the US Navy, and while stationed at Naval Hospital in Chelsea, MA and the Philadelphia Naval Base, developed an interest in nursing. He attended Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing for Men in Philadelphia and worked for decades as a registered nurse at the White River Junction VAMC and dedicated his life to caring for others.

Throughout his life, he built treasured friendships as a dedicated and active Freemason. He cherished the bonds he formed with his brothers in the Lodge and found great fulfillment in helping others grow and succeed. His many Masonic accomplishments as a Master Mason included Worshipful Master, Exalted Royal Arch Mason, Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Royal and Select Masons, Sir Knight in St. Ademar Commandery serving as Eminent Commander, and Preeminent Governor of Green Mountain York Rite College. He received numerous awards from fraternal organizations for his dedication to Masonry.

Belford was a dedicated fan of the Berwick High School Football team, traveling to Pennsylvania for many years following their winning schedule. Another passion of his was antique cars, motorcycles, and traveling to car shows, especially Owls Head in Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, his sister, Tricia Belles Turner (Ben), step-children, Jeffrey Miller (Robin), Jennifer Juergensen (Gary), and granddaughter, Gabby Rivera.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to all their loyal friends, companions, the White River Junction VAMC Ground West staff and Dr. Brenda Sirovich, who provided outstanding care making his final days comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the Thetford Volunteer Fast Squad, 2829 VT Route 113, Thetford Center, VT 05075 would be appreciated.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in White River Junction, VT. A committal service with full military honors will take place at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, VT on Monday, April 28th at 11am.
