Obituary

Plainfield,NH - Beatrice (Bishop) Clark, 92, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Sullivan County Nursing Home in Unity, NH. Bea was born on January 9, 1920 the daughter of George and Lucy (Ruggles) Bishop and lived her early life and retired years in Plainfield. She attended school in Plainfield and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. Bea studied at Rutgers University and Newark College before receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire. She married William Clark of New Jersey and Windsor, VT on June 20, 1942 in Plainfield. Bea worked as a chemist for Merck & Co. in Rahway, NJ for twelve years and worked professionally as a chemist for over thirty-eight years. She then received a Master of Science Education degree from Columbia University and taught chemistry and physics in Chatham, NJ for sixteen years before retiring to New Hampshire in 1971.



She returned to school again at Lebanon School for Accounting and became the bookkeeper for Supervisory Union 32 in Lebanon, NH for ten years until her retirement in 1982.



Though Bea and "Red" had a Cornish address, she lived in Plainfield, where she served in every organization in town. In 1990 she received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism. She was active in the Mothers and Daughters Club in Plainfield, the Historical Society, the Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and a lifelong member of the Plainfield Community Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and held many other positions. She was a member of the Conservation Commission, the Plainfield Planning Board and a trustee of the Plainfield Cemetery.



She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1986, one brother, Alfred Bishop and one sister Dorothy James. Survivors include a sister, Sylvia Weeber of Beaver Falls, PA, three nieces and three nephews including Omar James of California, and several great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends in Cornish and Plainfield. She will be greatly missed by her friend Anne Tracy of Cornish who has been handling Bea's affairs for the past several years.



Committal services will be held on Saturday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. in the Plainfield Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Plainfield Community Baptist Church.
