Obituary

Barbara Ross Trottier passed away peacefully in Londonderry, VT on October 30, 2020 at the age of 93. She always loved being told that she didn't look her age. She was born on May 20, 1927 in Bridgewater, NH, the youngest of three daughters born to Charles and Ada (Hodgman) Ross. She attended Bristol Elementary School and graduated from Bristol High School in 1945. Upon graduating she went to work in the office of Dodge Davis Woolen Mill in Bristol which was soon bought out by Hartford Woolen and the office staff was transferred to the Hartford, VT location. It was there that she met Emmanuel "Pete" Trottier whom she married on August 14, 1948.

They lived in White River Jct, VT where they welcomed their first four children and then moved to North Hartland, VT where they had two more children. Their home was the gathering spot for their large extended family and Barbara could often be found cooking and baking for the many family get togethers. Her children's friends also have many happy memories of eating her delicious baked goods. Pete kept a large garden and Barbara kept busy all summer canning, freezing, and pickling. She was an excellent seamstress making clothes for herself and her daughters and was an accomplished knitter.

She was a stay at home mom for many years, but her love of sewing led her to take a part time job evenings at a fabric store where she met Deanna Stowell and in 1971, they became partners and opened a fabric store, The Sewing Basket in West Lebanon before moving it to White River Jct. They opened a branch in Claremont, NH. They split the partnership with Barbara keeping the White River Jct store which she sold in 1980.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in White River Jct. and had served on the Parish Council. She was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts when her sons were young.

Upon Pete's retirement, they moved to Winter Haven, Florida where she took up golf, bridge, and joined many clubs. She was a charter member of Today's Floridians. She was a member of The Catholic Women's Club and The Columbiettes. She played Bridge with a few different groups, worked Bingo for the Knights of Columbus twice a week, played cards other days. She had a social life that would have tired out a lesser person. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was a greeter and also served at coffee hour.

After Pete's death in 2011, she lived in Florida for a few more years before returning to Hartland to be nearer to her children. After a short period of declining health, she moved in with her daughter, Deb and son in law, Don where she spent the final six months of her life.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Spooner and Betty Hewitt, and a foster granddaughter, Christine. She is survived by her children Deborah (Donald) Hazelton of Londonderry, VT, Catherine (James) Ploof of Hartland, VT, Arthur (Nancy) Trottier of Wilder, VT, Margaret "Peggy" (Scott) Perrault of Lebanon, NH, Thomas (Christine) Trottier of Florissant, Co, and Martin of Hartland, VT, 10 Grandchildren, Jeffrey, Betsy, Sandra, Kimberly, Nicholas, Justin, Ross, Samantha, Adam, and Cory, 11 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, a sister in law, Pauline Trottier, a brother in law, Robert Trottier and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family with a celebration of life held at a later date. If you want to do something in her memory, hug your children. Children were most important in her world.
