Barbara Ruth Claflin
Wilder, VT – Barbara Ruth Claflin, 78, died Sunday August 19th following a brief illness at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born January 10, 1934 in Winsted, CT a daughter of Archie and Ruth (Baker) Walker. Barbara graduated from Hartford High School in 1952, later that year she was married to Willis B. "Sonny" Claflin Jr. They lived in Wilder most of their married lives. Barbara owned and operated the Wilder Yarn Shop until the late 1970's but later worked at J.J. Newbury's in White River Jct., Cross Abbott Warehouse in Hartford and for many years in housekeeping at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center until retiring. After her retirement she worked part time for Kleen Laundry in Lebanon.
Barbara had a passion for knitting; she especially enjoyed knitting mittens and Christmas Stockings for her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sonny, in 1989; a son James Claflin in 2008 and a sister Mary Monroe.
She is survived by her son Wayne Claflin of Enfield, NH; her daughters Shelda Claflin of Merlin, OR and Nancy Claflin Gray of White River Jct. a niece Bonnie Lee Monroe Poynter of Lakeland, FL; four grandchildren, Shawn Gray and his wife Elizabeth of Wentworth, NH, Alicia Gray and her friend Christopher of Milford, MA, Yvonne Marie Claflin of Hanover, NH and De Aunna Claflin of Lebanon, NH as well as several great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Monday August 27th from 6-8PM. A Memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday August 28th at 11AM.
