Norwich, Vermont – Avis Chatlos, 97, died Thursday evening, November 24, 2016 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. She was born September 26, 1919 in Williamstown, VT the daughter of Ernest and Eva (Bunting) Hood.
She attended schools in Williamstown and Sharon, VT before graduating from South Royalton High School. During World War II Avis worked at the General Electric Plant in Bridgeport, CT. It was here that she met her future husband, Andrew Chatlos, Sr. They were married on October 26, 1944 in Bridgeport, CT. They moved to Lebanon, NH and lived there until 1981 when they moved to Quechee, VT. Avis worked for just over ten years at Dartmouth College in the housekeeping department. Mr. Chatlos died April 29, 1990.
Avis enjoyed cooking and food in general. She also liked to read and travel around Vermont. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, a sister, Elva Noyes and a half sister, Mabel Edwards.
She is survived by her son, Andrew G. Chatlos, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of White River Jct., VT, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday afternoon, November 29, from 1-3 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT. Funeral services will tale place immediately following at 3PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in White River Jct., VT.
