Obituary

Hartland, VT - Avery Lull Howe, 89, entered his eternal life on April 20, 2019.
Even though his last few years were difficult after a stroke, he managed to keep alive his wit, stories and deep love for his wife and family. Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center became his home for last 6 years. New relationships were made. The staff were loving and caring.

Avery was born in Hartland, VT on June 29, 1929 to Raymond and Hazel (Barbour) Howe, known as Pa and Ma. He lived his whole life in Hartland until the stroke. While serving in the United States Army, he married Pauline Perkins (Sammy). Avery and Sammy , a team in every respect, raised 5 children. Avery worked at Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor, VT until his retirement after 41 years.

Avery managed to build their family home and participated in countless activities including woodworking, helping brother Paul take care of Mace Hill family farm, playing pool at home, playing his "bones" at the Bugbee Center, and at North East Fiddle meets with son Butch on the fiddle. He was a water dowser and announced horse shows in the area. Christmas with the family was one of his top delights. Avery and Sammy rode a motorcycle, fished, canoed, camped with friends and took a memorable trip to Alaska.

Avery was awarded a State of Vermont certificate of recognition for 50 years of service in the hunter safety program. Volunteering included Boy Scout leader, little league, softball, and Hartland Fish and Game suppers. Avery was often a leader and the groups thrived under his leadership. Avery and Sammy worked on the hunter education classes as well as church suppers. The couple enjoyed dancing with the Sugar House Swingers and made good friends. They also enjoyed participating in the Hartland Variety shows and both helped with Meals on Wheels.  Avery was also an active member of the Hartland American Legion Post 48 for many years.

Avery was predeceased by his father, Raymond Howe, his mother, Hazel Howe, a half brother, Leo Howe, his brother Raymond Howe, Jr., his sister, Viola Durphey, and an infant son, Aaron Howe.

Avery is survived by his wife , Pauline Howe, his brother, Paul Howe and his sister, Laura Noel; son, Avery Howe, Jr. and  daughters, Deborah Shields, Diane (Dina) Savoie, Dawn Bissonnette, Dorie Burnham and their spouses/partners. Avery and Sammy have 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
