Obituary

Avard W. 'Benny' Benton, 94, passed away on January 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 5, 1929, in Portland, Maine, son of Alfred W. and Margaret (Kenerson) Benton. He was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH with the class of 1947. He Served with the Army Signal Corps from 1952-53.

In 1987, Benny retired from the phone company (New England Tele and Tele/NYNEX) after 34 years of service. Later he started his own fix-it business, which he operated for fifteen years.

He was a member of the Masons, Lions Club, Shriners, American Legion, Carter Community golf club as well as the Rochester, NH golf club. He was an avid sportsman and participated in many sports including hockey, hunting, motorcycle, skiing, and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Malloy) Booth-Benton, daughter Lisa Philbrick and husband Kelly of Franconia, NH, son Michael Benton and wife Tiffany of Swampscott, MA, step-son Mark Booth and wife Amy of Manchester, NH. He also leaves behind his brother, Alfred and wife Cynthia of Rochester, NH. Grandchildren, Erika, Aimee, Cadin, Quinn, Devan and great granddaughter, Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 12, 2024, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 749 Hartford Ave., White River Jct., VT 05001.
