Athalie Chase Blanchard, 95, a longtime resident of Windsor passed away Easter morning, Sunday, April 24 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born May 29, 1915 in Windsor the daughter of Harvey and Harriet (Bragg) Chase. She received her schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1932. As a young lady she worked as a nanny for the Evarts family at their estate in Windsor and their home on Long Island. She married Allen H. Blanchard in Montpelier on January 18, 1936. She was employed by Bill and Alice Hannah at their restaurant in Windsor, leaving to raise her family.
She was a longtime member of the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor, a member of the Windsor Lions Club and a Grey Lady Volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct. She was honored as volunteer of the year by the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor in 2005. She was also a Girl Scout leader in Windsor for several years. Athalie enjoyed walking and was an avid exerciser into her early 90's.
She made her house a home, not only for her family but to everyone that walked through her front door. She was an excellent cook, loved to play cards, a Larry Bird fan, and enjoyed dancing.
Her husband of fifty years, passed away on November 17, 1986.
Survivors include, one daughter, Sandra S. MacCallum and her husband, Gene, of Williston, VT, two sons, Bruce C. Blanchard and his wife, Coleen of Strafford, CT and Brian A. Blanchard and his wife, Dallas of Lakeland, FL, five grandchildren, Cheryl B. Zerjav, Brett C. Blanchard, Brooks C. Blanchard, Mark W. Blanchard, and Beth B. Williams, eight great grandchildren, one sister, Bevalie Nute of Littleton, NH, two nephews and one niece.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30 at 11:00 AM at the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor with the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will follow in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
