Arliene D. Powers

Wilder, VT - Arliene D. Powers, 94, died Sunday June 28, 2015 at Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, VT.

She was born September 27, 1920 in Lebanon, NH a daughter of Alfred and Margaret (Lovely) Durant. Arliene attended school in Post Mills, VT and was later married to Dorrance Powers on March 7, 1942 in Strafford, VT. Together they raised a family and spent most of their married lives on the New Boston Road in Norwich. Mrs. Powers cleaned private homes in Norwich for many years including for the Peisch's and the Hennessey's. She also delivered the Valley News and worked for a time in the kitchen at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover. Mr. Powers died in 1985 and shortly after she moved to Wilder, VT where she lived until becoming a resident at Cedar Hill in 2009.

Arliene enjoyed crafting, knitting and gardening, especially her flower garden. She was very proud to have earned her GED while in her 50's.

She was also predeceased by a sister Marguerite Coburn and three brothers Donald, Ernest and Clarence Durant.

Mrs. Powers leaves two daughters Janis Foley of Ellington, CT and Phyllis Wheeler of White River Jct., VT; five sons, Dale Powers and Karl Powers both of Manchester, NH, Gary Powers of Weare, NH, Neil Powers of Canaan, NH and Timothy Powers of Raymond, NH; 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. on Wednesday July 1st from 6-8PM. A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday July 2nd at 11AM at the funeral home with burial following in the Hillside Cemetery in Norwich.
