IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlene
Quigel
October 27, 1927 – June 13, 2025
Post Mills, VT- Arlene Quigel, 97, died at her home in Post Mills, VT on June 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Arlene was born in South Williamsport, PA on October 27, 1927, the daughter of Walter S. and Mabel C. Larson. She graduated from South Williamsport, PA high school in 1945. After graduation, she started working as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in South Williamsport.
Approximately 10 years later, she married the love of her life, William Quigel, who was working with her father at the National Biscuit Company in Williamsport, PA. Three months after the marriage, her husband was transferred to Decatur, Illinois as Office Manager of the Nabisco Sales Branch there.
Then came successive transfers to Columbus, OH, Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA, requiring plenty of packing and unpacking. While in Philadelphia, her husband worked as an auditor for five years, a role that required frequent travel- often for weeks at a time. This led to some lonely periods, especially with a small child at home.
Her husband was then transferred to the Nabisco Bakery in Fairlawn, NJ as Assistant Office Manager, and since he was no longer travelling, we felt like a whole family again. After 3 years in New Jersey, we made our final transfer to Philadelphia, and that is where we retired in 1985. The move to Philadelphia was an easy one, as that is where we lived before and we had many friends there.
Arlene's hobbies included reading, ceramics and travelling. With her husband, they travelled extensively throughout the United States, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand.
In 2015, Bill and Arlene sold their house in Hatboro, PA and moved to Post Mills, VT to live with their daughter, Christine. A lovely apartment was added to her home, and Arlene and William became beneficiaries of excellent love and care.
Arlene was predeceased by her brother, John Larson, and sister, Mary Quigel. Arlene leaves behind her beloved husband of 71 years, William Quigel; her children, Christine Kogel and Steven Quigel; her grandsons, Garrett Kogel, Matthew Quigel and Anthony Quigel and her great-grandson, Julian Quigel.
