Obituary

Ascutney, VT – It is with deep sadness that the family of Arlene Chamberlain announces her passing on March 4, 2025, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital. She was 88 years old.

Born on May 2, 1936, in Middlesex, Vermont, Arlene was the daughter of Roy and Natalie (Sweet) White. She grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1956. Arlene dedicated many years to service, working as a housekeeper at the Windsor Hotel, the Ascutney House, and in private homes. In 1988, she joined the staff at Mt. Ascutney Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 2008.

On September 26, 1992, Arlene married Paul Chamberlain, and they resided in Claremont until his passing in 2000. She then moved to Ascutney, her home until her death.

A woman of strong faith, Arlene was a devoted member of the Rachel S. Harlow Methodist Church, where she actively participated in various church activities and contributed to numerous community service events. She also attended the Old South Church in Windsor. Even after retiring from Mt. Ascutney Hospital, Arlene continued to volunteer there, warmly greeting visitors for many years.

Arlene cherished her family and was known for her vibrant personality, expressed through her colorful wardrobe and extensive hat collection. She found joy in gardening, thrifting, and caring for her beloved cats. Arlene's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many.

Family was the heart of Arlene's life. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Robin LaLonde, and her husband, Darrell, of Whitefield, NH, and their sons, Justin, Brandon, and Ben; her son, Kendall Haley of Berlin, VT, and his sons, Shane (and wife Missy), Roy, and Shawn (and wife Amber). She also leaves behind her sister, Brenda Strout, and brother-in-law, Buster, of Brewster, MA; brothers Maynard White (and wife Linda) and Dennis White (and wife Theresa), both of Ascutney; and sister-in-law, Kay White of Milldale, CT; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arnold White.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, VT. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook found at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
