White River Junction, VT - Annette A. Williams (nee Breed) died at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on Thursday, February 26, 2026. She was born on February 16, 1964, in Philadelphia, PA to parents Robert and Tineka (nee Stinkens) Breed. She did most of her growing up in Dobbs Ferry, NY. After public and high school, she attended Hamilton College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government studies and French.
While attending college, she met Ian Williams. After marrying, they eventually settled in Etna, NH and there raised their two children, daughter Alexis and son Reid. Although Annette and Ian parted ways, they did so amicably and continued to co-parent their children.
Annette’s work career was focused on fundraising and helping to fulfill the missions of Dartmouth College, Northern Stage Theatre in White River Junction and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Annette’s warm, energetic personality and consensus-based leadership style always made her highly effective in her roles and a trusted, valued colleague.
Annette met Dr. Richard Wiginton of Ameliasburgh, Ontario, Canada in 2014 when he came through the Hanover area on a solo motorcycle trip. They stayed in touch, friendship grew into love and they became committed life partners. Together, they shared the joys of their two families and friend groups in Canada and the United States.
Annette’s loving and outgoing approach to life was contagious. Those around her couldn’t help but to be drawn into her positive energy, warmth, inclusivity, and joy for living. Annette was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. At the time of diagnosis, her disease was already advanced to a stage where cure was not possible. Annette worked with her care team over the years to try any treatment that could extend a life of quality. She never let cancer define her. She instead focused on living a cheerful and good quality life with her family and friends. She always credited her care, family and friends with helping her live well past her cancer’s usual prognosis.
Annette is survived by her husband Richard Wiginton, MD of Ameliasburgh, Ontario, Canada, her mother Tineka Breed (nee Stinkens) of Falmouth, ME, brother George Gordon Breed of Falmouth, ME, daughter Alexis and her partner Nick, of New York City, NY, son Reid of Ann Arbor MI, former husband Ian Williams of White River Junction, VT and many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father.
Annette’s family will fulfill her wishes that her cremated remains be scattered in private ceremonies at the two locations that brought such joy to her life: around Chebeague Island in the Casco Bay, ME and Roblin Lake in Ameliasburgh, Ontario, Canada.
Annette and her family are extremely grateful to everyone at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center who gave her such expert, professional and supportive care throughout her journey living with cancer. Donations in her memory could be made to any organization that furthers cancer research or the care of cancer patients.
