White River Jct., VT- Anne Davis Robert, 84, died March 10, 2010 at Genesis Nursing Home after a period of failing health.
She was born in Hanover, NH July 27th, 1925, the daughter of Clifton and Margaret (Welsh) Davis. She was a proud graduate of Hartford High School, class of 1943. In 1946 she graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing and continued with her post graduate education at St. Anslem's College and the University of Vermont.
Anne was initially employed as a nurse by the Hitchcock Clinic in the Dermatology Department. A few years later, she found employment as the Town of Hartford's first school nurse. During her twenty years with the school district, she helped implement the immunization program and the school "readiness" program which determined each inbound first grader's learning level. Anne was also a founding member of the Quechee School for Handicap Children, the first of its kind in the town of Hartford. In addition to these accomplishments, Anne served as the Home School Coordinator and later taught Health Occupations for two year's at the Hartford Vocational Center.
Anne helped establish the Vermont School Nurses Association and served as president for two years. She served on many other boards including the Board of Mental Health and the Vermont Children's Aid Society.
Anne was last employed for eleven years at the Vermont Department of Social Rehabilitative Service's in Hartford. She retired as District Director in 1989.
One activity that brought her great enjoyment was music and singing. She was a founding member of the Hartford Area Barber Shop Chorus (Sweet Adeline's) and participated in many regional competitions. Anne also joined three other barber shop friends and formed a group called the "Jolly Dollies". They performed together for 30 years, entertaining at various events and area nursing homes until 1999.
Anne's other passions included spending time with her children and grandchildren, a great joke (her irreverent sense of humor was legendary), the school children she served while school nurse and helping all people that were experiencing difficult circumstances.
Anne is survived by her daughters Margaret and Daniel Esposito of Brick, NJ, Mary and Keith Hanson of White River Jct., VT; grandchildren, Daniel Esposito, Elizabeth Esposito Gallus, James Esposito, Brian Hanson and Anne Hanson.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. has been entrusted with arrangements.
