Angelo P. Righi, 84, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 13 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
He was born December 22, 1929 in Readsboro, Vermont the son of Achille and Agnes (Dalbon) Righi. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in North Adams, MA. He later graduated from North Adams State Teachers College and earned his Master's Degree in Guidance from SUNY in Albany, NY. Angelo married Margaret Foote in North Adams on November 22, 1956. He taught at the Springfield, Vermont School system for several years until becoming the Guidance Counselor at Windsor High School. He most recently was employed by the Claremont School District as Director of Guidance at Stevens High School until his retirement in 1994. Throughout his career he was an advocate for higher education and encouraging his students to reach their fullest potential.
He was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor where he served as a Lector. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. He was fond of attending his children's and grandchildren's local sporting events. He also was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents and by two brothers, Julio Righi and Achille Righi.
Survivors include his wife of fifty seven years, Margaret Righi of Windsor, three sons, David Righi and his wife, Lyssa of Phoenix, AZ, Paul Righi and his wife, Nan of Brattleboro, VT and Peter Righi and his wife, Mayka of Bowie, MD, two daughters, Linda Quinlan and her husband, Peter of Wallkill, NY and Susan Hamel and her husband, Gregg of Swampscott, MA, fourteen grandchildren, Alexander, Carter and Graham Righi, John, Sam, Kirtley and Bobby Righi, Andrew, Julian and Sebastian Righi, Luke and Joseph Quinlan, and Michael and Rachel Hamel, one brother, Virgil Righi of North Adams, MA, two sisters, Mary Ziemba of Middletown, CT and Agnes York of North Adams, MA, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, February 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 1 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor. The Rev. Raphael Nyabenda will be the Celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held in the spring in the Village Cemetery in Readsboro, VT.
