Amos C. Ticehurst

White River Jct., VT - Amos C. Ticehurst, 89, died February 4th at Brookside Nursing Home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born on April 3, 1922 in St. Johnsbury, VT to Vernon B. and Winifred (Clark) Ticehurst. He attended St. Johnsbury schools, leaving school before graduation to enlist in the US Army Air Corps. He served during World War II from 1942 through January 1946 in the China-Burma-India Theater. He earned his GED upon his return. Upon his discharge from the service he obtained a commercial pilot's license which he held for many years.

Amos married Barbara Leithead of St. Johnsbury, while serving with the Air Corps in South Carolina on February 5, 1943

In 1957, he began employment with New England Telephone, moving the small family to White River Junction where they have lived since. Amos retired in 1984 and the Ticehurst's have spent most of their winters in Surprise, AZ since 1988.

Amos was a member of United Brethren Lodge #21 F. & A.M, Windsor Council #7, R. & SM., Order of the High Priesthood, Royal Arch, Mt. Sinai Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Forest-Unity Chapter #82 O.E.S, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571, Vermont Commandery #4 Knights Templar and The Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of White River Jct. serving as a trustee for many years until his death.

Along with his wife of 68 years, Amos leaves behind daughter Cynthia and her husband Philip Gates of South Royalton, VT and their sons, Scott and Ian; daughter Deborah and her husband, Thomas Franklin of White River Jct. their daughter Amy and her husband, Carl Hall and great-grandson, Matthew Amos; son Eric and his wife Rachel of West Lebanon, NH and their children, Elizabeth and Ethan.

Visiting hours will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct. Tuesday February 7th from 2-4 and 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the White River United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2PM, burial will follow in the Hartford Cemetery.
