Alyce A. Samuelson
Windsor, VT - Alyce A. Samuelson, 81, died Friday, January 25, 2013, after a brief illness at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born November 3, 1931 in Derby, CT the daughter of Jeremiah J and Alyce A (Flemming) Linane. Alyce graduated from Ansonia High School in Ansonia, CT. She went onto be the first female police officer in Ansonia. She was extremely involved in her community, she sang with the Sweet Adeline's, performed waterskiing acrobatics in the Bell Air Club. Alyce worked for a time at the Actors Colony in Seymour, CT as a waitress, she then started her career as a bookkeeper, where she worked at several establishments prior to retiring from Bruce Spewak Associates in West Haven, CT. Alyce was married to Irving Samuelson November 3, 1955 in Niagara Falls, NY. She continued her community involvement by running for both state and local politics; she served as an alderman in Ansonia and ran as a state senator. She later moved to Windsor to be nearer her daughter.
Alyce was a member of the Ansonia Civil Defense and a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed working with her hands as a seamstress or working with ceramics. She was also passionate about animals and their wellbeing. But what she loved most was her family and their special trips to Disney World.
Alyce is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann Samuelson of Charleston, SC, Susan Ann Yorkshaitis of Bethany, CT and Nancy Ann Warner of Windsor, VT; four grandchildren Thomas Michael Yorkshaitis, Nicholas Ray Yorkshaitis, Samantha Ann Yorkshaitis, and Stephen Michael Warner; and a great-grandson, Mathew Ian Yorkshaitis.
