Allen J. Melendy died Tuesday morning November 13, 2018 at the Jack Byrne Palliative Care and Hospice Center in Lebanon, NH.

Allen was born in Norwich, VT. on Nov. 3, 1937, the son of Don and E. Phila (Hazen) Melendy. Allen went to school in Norwich, and graduated from Hanover High School in 1956. He married his sweetheart, Rebecca (Becky) Twiss on August 11, 1956 in Wilder, VT. They made their home in Wilder for the past 62 years.

Allen was a Sergeant in the 618 ^th Transportation Group of the US Army Reserves from 1954 to 1961. He was called to active duty in 1961, and stationed at Fort Dix, NJ until being honorably discharged in 1962. Allen worked as a truck driver for L. H. Cook and Bomhowers Oil Service. He was a skilled carpenter, and made many toys for his grandchildren. Allen was a mechanic for much of his life; working at Roger's Garage, Southworth's Garage, Clifford's Garage, Lester Chevrolet, Pringle Chevrolet, Damar Chevrolet, and Miller Auto, where he retired in 2000. After retirement, he continued to work part-time at Dartmouth Coach and GSS currier service.

Allen was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He and Becky enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their children and grandchildren. They fondly remember trips to England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Virginia, Florida, and Colorado.

Allen was a member and Past Master of the F&AM United Brethren Lodge #21 in White River Jct., VT.

He leaves his wife Becky and son Steven of Wilder; a daughter, Sandra and husband Roger Danforth, Sr. of Ormond Beach, FL; a son, Dale of White River Jct. and partner Carol Kolenski; a daughter, Jeanne Emery of Lebanon, NH and a son Daniel and wife Dorothy of Evans, GA. Allen leaves 10 grandchildren: Scott Danforth of Toledo, OH; Roger Danforth, Jr. and wife Andie of Leesburg, FL; Missy Emery of Lebanon, NH and partner Josh Stanley; Shannon and husband Tim Lewis of Canaan, NH; Ben Melendy and wife Chrissy of Aurora, CO; Stephanie and husband Ben Lovejoy of Larkspur, CO; Shelby Gilbert of Wilder; April Melendy and fiancé Sonny Akroyd of Sharon, VT; Nermin and husband Matthew Rogers of Portage, MI; and Matthew Melendy of Portage, MI. He leaves 9 great-grandchildren: Amelia and Lilli Danforth of FL; Haylee and Adalyn Gilbert of Wilder; George Akroyd of Sharon, VT; Quillan Melendy of Aurora, CO, Matthew and Cameron Shipman, Dominic Rogers all of Portage, MI; sisters: Margaret O'Connell of Worcester, MA; Marion Wright of White River Jct.; Madalyn and husband Bob Sprague of Lebanon, NH; and Martha and husband George Scherer of Pennington, NJ; and brother Carl, Sr. and wife Hazel of Lebanon, NH. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Robert, Roger, and Donald.

A visitation will be held at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., VT on Saturday November 17 ^th from 2-3PM with a memorial service following at 3PM.  Burial will be in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder.
