IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice B.
Schou
January 7, 1928 – February 16, 2019
Alice B. Schou, 91, a resident of Woodstock, died peacefully Saturday morning, February 16 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.
She was born January 7, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Carl and Olivia (Jorgensen) Bruun. She received her schooling in Brooklyn and graduated from Packer Collegiate Institute in 1946. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan for thirteen years, always treasuring the fact that for ten years her office window looked out on the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
She married Finn K. Schou in Brooklyn on March 3, 1951. In 1959 they moved to Park Forest, IL and later to Country Club Hills, IL, where their two children were born. Alice always considered the seven years spent in Illinois as some of her happiest years, raising her two young children and making some lasting friendships. In 1966 they moved to Bay Shore, NY, where they lived until 1976, when the family realized their dream of living in Vermont. During her years in Vermont, she worked as a legal secretary and as a Medical Transcriptionist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center until her retirement in 1999.
Alice loved being a grandmother and felt very fortunate to having her daughter and grandchildren living close by. In her early retirement years, she did some traveling and later served as a water aerobic instructor, a library volunteer and was a member of the Hartland Congregational Church and the Women's Auxiliary. She treasured her friends far and near and especially her bridge club, which met weekly since 1999.
She was predeceased by her husband of forty seven years, Finn, in 1998 and her beloved son Peter who died at the age of forty four in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Dattilio of Hartland, VT; her grandson, Matthew Dattilio and his wife Marybeth Dattilio; her granddaughter, Kirsten Vigneault and her husband Ed Vigneault; two great grandchildren, Lucian and Griffyn Vigneault; her companion of fourteen years, Harry Jorgensen of Woodstock, VT; sister Caryl Strand and three nephews of Union, NJ.
