WINDSOR, VT
Alice May Adams, 94, a former resident of Windsor, passed away Tuesday morning, April 7, at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH following a brief illness, with her daughter and son in law by her side.
She was born May 8, 1920 in Keene, NH the daughter of Thomas Henry and Alice Jane (Kelley) Pender. She attended a Catholic school in Keene but went to work as a very young woman to help support her immediate family. Alice worked at the telephone company and at various mills in the Keene area. She married Earl M. Adams in Keene on May 21, 1954 and they resided most of their married lives in their home in Munsonville, NH. During this time, she stayed home and raised her children. Family and friends that knew Allie well will remember her deep religious faith and inner strength which helped her to cope with the many struggles in her life.
When her husband passed away in 1996, she moved to Plainfield, NH to be closer to her daughter and son in law and new grandson. Due to failing health, she moved to Historic Homes of Runnemede, Stoughton House in 2001 and to Hanover Terrace Healthcare in October of 2014.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a young son from a previous marriage, Michael Webber, and by her parents, one brother, John Pender, and three sisters, Ethel Hamelin, Rita Hartman and Margaret Leslie.
Survivors include one daughter, Avis A. MacLeay and her husband, Scott of Plainfield, NH, one son, James T. Adams and his wife, Judy of Woodbridge, VA, one grandson, Ryan Scott MacLeay of Plainfield and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in June at a place and time to be announced. Committal services will be held in the family lot in the Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, NH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stoughton House at 40 Maxwell Perkins Lane, Windsor, VT 05089 or to Hanover Terrace Healthcare at 49 Lyme Road, Hanover, NH 03755 to help with the patient's activity fund.
