HARTLAND, VT
Alan A. Virgus, 81, a resident of Safety Harbor, FL and formerly of Hartland, passed away Wednesday May 22 at the Meese Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, FL.
He was born September 23, 1931 in Hartland the son of George and Mabel (Stillson) Virgus. He received his schooling in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Alan was an avid sports fan and enjoyed skiing, baseball and bowling. In later years he enjoyed playing tennis.
He was employed as a supervisor at the Safety Harbor Spa in Safety Harbor, FL for several years.
Survivors include his former wife, Sally Harris of Litchfield, CT, one sister, Marcia Kozie and her husband, Walter, of Fairbanks, AK, one niece, Michelle Kozie and her husband, Elias Gerontopoulos of Greece, two nephews, Mike Kozie and his wife, Leanne and Marc Kozie.
A graveside service with military honors, will be held Friday, June 28 at 2:00 PM in the Hartland Village Cemetery in Hartland. The Rev. Paul Sawyer, Pastor of the Hartland Four Corners Universalist Unitarian Church will officiate. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Hartland Four Corners Universalist Unitarian Church.
The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with local arrangements.
