Hartford, VT — Alan L. "Bunky" Adams, 78, died Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at his home.
Bunky was born February 22, 1947, in Hanover, NH, a son of Earle and Loraine (Santaw) Adams. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1965 and went on to serve for two years in the Vermont Army National Guard. On June 16, 1968, he married Donna Howland in White River Junction, and the couple made their home in Hartford.
Bunky worked as a auto body mechanic at several area shops, including Hillcrest Motors and Gateway Motors. In the early 1970s he opened his own shop on School Street in Hartford. A man of many talents, he built both his home and his new shop, where he later added an inspection station. He retired in 2017 due to declining health.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, a skilled mechanic, and an accomplished race driver. Bunky built and drove modified race cars on dirt tracks throughout New England, earning a reputation as "the man to beat.". He won many races, state championships and collected numerous trophies. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman who continued getting into the woods until recently. One of his most recent fond memories was watching the Patriots vs Buccaneers game with his daughter, Jennifer.
Bunky was predeceased by his parents; two brothers Steven Adams and Eddie Adams, and by a nephew, Patrick Adams. He is survived by his wife, Donna Adams of Hartford; his daughter, Jennifer L. Adams of New Port Richey, FL; his sisters, Mary Adams of Milton, VT, and Carol Rogers of Amherst, NH; his brothers, Hugh Cofrancesco of Lyndonville, VT, and Gregory Adams of Hardwick, VT; as well as extended family members and friends.
A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family. Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to Alan's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com
